Dallas Law (effective January 1, 2023) created two major changes:
Security guards can face suspension or revocation of their registration, civil penalties, and investigatory costs. Employers who use improperly trained guards can face Class A misdemeanor charges. Establishments with on-premises alcohol licenses can have their alcohol permits suspended for 30 days.
It depends on who holds the ABC or beer board license and who employs the guards. If the mall entity holds the license and employs the guards, the training is required. When in doubt, complete the training.
If the person’s primary duty is to control access or prevent entry, even temporarily, registration as a security guard is generally required.
